About the ferry schedule
We try to keep this schedule as up to date as possible, but it could be that there are slight changes.
Most tourists choose to travel to the port of Moyogalpa. When going to the other side of the island the port of San Jose del Sur can be more close. Keep in mind though that if you don’t have your transport or hotel arranged yet it may be easier to choose for Moyogalpa, because there you have plenty of options.
When you travel with a car or other vehicle that is bigger than a motorcycle, you should always reserve a spot ahead of time trough the phone numbers provided above. When you have a vehicle you should arrive about an hour before the ferry leaves so you have enough time to do the registration and taxes. When you are just as a passenger you can arrive later, but in the high season it is advised to be a bit early to get a spot to sit and in the shade.
When you arrive at the port of San Jorge, you have to pay a tax to be allowed to enter the port. This will be $1 or the same equivalent in cordobas. Then you’ll go a bit into the port and on the left side you have a few counters where you have to buy your ticket, it depends on which boat you take. When you have a vehicle with you, there is also another counter where you’ll have to go after to pay your taxes. You’ll be redirected by the workers there where you should place your vehicle. A bit further into the port there is the last stop, where you have to fill in your name and passport number to a form.
When travelling back from Moyogalpa the process is a little easier, there you’ll find the ticket offices on the right side when you walk into the port, and you’ll have to fill your details on the form in the same place.
